The New England Patriots are closing in on a new contract for tight end Rob Gronkowski, a source told Jeff Howe of The Athletic.
The two sides have reportedly been in talks on reworking his contract for some time now, but there has been no word on whether the player will receive an extension or merely a pay raise.
Gronkowski is set to make $8 million in base salary in 2018 and $9 million in 2019 before hitting free agency. The best player at his position, he also became the highest-paid tight end in the game after signing his $54-million contract in 2012.
He's been away from voluntary OTAs, though he's expected back for mandatory minicamp.
