The New York Jets have traded quarterback Christian Hackenberg to the Oakland Raiders for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2019, head coach Todd Bowles announced Tuesday.

Hackenberg was the Jets' second-round pick (51st overall) in the 2016 draft but did not play a single regular-season snap for his former team.

The former Penn State product entered organized team activities fourth on New York's quarterback depth chart behind Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater, and 2018 first-round pick Sam Darnold.

Things won't get any easier for Hackenberg in Oakland, as he'll compete with EJ Manuel and Connor Cook for a roster spot.

After an inconsistent collegiate career, Hackenberg's second-round selection is commonly viewed as one of the biggest reaches in recent draft history.
