New England Patriots safety Duron Harmon was detained at an airport in San Jose, Costa Rica for marijuana possession, according to Costa Rican newspaper La Nacion, as translated by Laura Alvarado of the Costa Rica Star.

Officials said police at Juan Santamaria International Airport detained Harmon after they discovered 58 grams of cannabis stuffed inside a can of iced tea in his luggage, accompanied by three pipes and 4.3 grams of compressed marijuana. He was later sent back to the United States.

"We are aware of the situation involving Duron Harmon Friday night in Costa Rica," the Patriots said in a statement, per ESPN. "He has since returned to the U.S. and we are seeking to gain more information. At this time, we have no further update."

The 27-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion is coming off his fifth season in New England. He signed a four-year extension ahead of the 2017 season and went on to lead all defensive backs with four interceptions.
