Report: Jon Gruden eyeing Buccaneers job if Koetter fired
Jon Gruden is interested in a return to NFL coaching and his preferred destination is his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Gruden - who's rumored to be in play to return most offseasons - is reaching out to potential coaching staff hires to see if they'd be available should he land a gig, added Rapoport.
Dirk Koetter is in his second season as the Bucs' head coach, but his team has been a huge disappointment this year after many pegged it as a sleeper Super Bowl contender following a strong offseason.
Tampa Bay won Super Bowl XXXVII under Gruden's guidance. The head coach spent seven seasons in charge before being fired in 2009. He's served as ESPN's color analyst on Monday Night Football ever since.
Gruden has expressed his admiration for Jameis Winston, and the Bucs would likely be seeking a head coach who could help mold the quarterback after an underwhelming third season in the NFL.
