The football world at-large received their introduction to New England Patriots running back Mike Gillislee on Thursday night.
Gillislee, who previously operated as LeSean McCoy's backup with the Buffalo Bills, punched in two touchdowns during the first half versus the Kansas City Chiefs, finishing the half with nine carries for 42 yards.
So how did the Patriots unearth their next potent running back? The Bills placed a fifth-round tender on Gillislee, maintaining their right of first refusal in negotiations.
The Patriots offered Gillislee a two-year, $6.4 million offer sheet which the Bills declined to match. Due to the fifth-round tender the Bills placed on Gillislee, the Patriots surrendered a fifth-round pick as compensation for the running back.
Through two quarters, the Patriots appear to have found their newest star at a bargain bin price while holding a 17-14 lead.
