Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett spoke with running back Ezekiel Elliott as the team collected in Oxnard, Calif. for training camp, per Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News.
Elliott's name has been splashed across news feeds as he faces a potential suspension for a 2016 domestic abuse accusation and was initially believed to be involved in an altercation at a Dallas bar last weekend. Garrett promised to sit down with his back before getting down to football.
"We believe very strongly in Zeke as a person and as a player," Garrett said Sunday, according to Rob Phillips of dallascowboys.com.
"Having said that, he's not perfect," the coach added, per David Helman of the Cowboys official website.
Team owner Jerry Jones opined on the topic and insisted he has a "high bar" and low tolerance for suspendable offenses, reports Kate Hairopoulos of The Dallas Morning News. Jones came to his young running back's defense in regard to the domestic violence accusation, however.
"I have reviewed everything and there is absolutely nothing - not one thing - that had anything to do with domestic violence," Jones said, per Todd Archer of ESPN.
The NFL is reportedly nearing the conclusion of its investigation into the matter.
