Bills' Taylor would 'love to have' Maclin, McCoy already recruiting WR

Unsurprisingly, Tyrod Taylor is in favor of the Buffalo Bills trying to get a new toy for him to play with.

Jeremy Maclin was shockingly released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday in what appeared to be a cap-motivated move. The wide receiver is expected to garner significant interest on the open market, and Taylor said Sunday he "would love to have" Maclin join him in Buffalo,

"Yeah, I was definitely surprised that it happened," Taylor said, according to The Buffalo News' Jay Skurski. "You don't know the reasons, but what I know, from what I've seen from Jeremy Maclin, he's definitely a great player. ... I know some of our coaches have spent some time with him, as well.

"Would love to have a guy like him on our team competing and coming out and making plays for us. Especially means a lot to our wide receiver room, putting another veteran guy with a whole bunch of talent and still potential left to reach his best. I would love to have him."

The quarterback added that he plans to contact Maclin - presumably to sell him on the benefits of teaming up - and also intends to speak to his coaches at next week's OTAs about signing the 29-year-old wideout, according to ESPN's Mike Rodak.

Taylor isn't the only member of the Bills pushing for the team to add Maclin.

LeSean McCoy and Maclin spent six seasons together with the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Bills' star running back said he's already started recruiting the receiver.

"Not to brag, but I was the first guy he talked to when the news broke," McCoy said. "I kind of understand because I've been through it. Maybe not to the extreme of being released, but being traded. That's basically telling you, 'You're not good enough for us.'

"I understand that. He was hurt, but I played with him and I know the guys in the locker room and I know he can help us out tremendously. I've been doing my recruiting already. Don't be surprised if it happens."

Despite a down year in 2016, Maclin is still an upper-tier receiver who could regain his form in the right offense, and the Bills have a need at the position despite drafting Zay Jones in the second round of this year's draft.

Sammy Watkins, the team's No. 1 option, is recovering from injuries that plagued him throughout the 2016 campaign and needs to prove he can be relied upon to stay healthy. Andre Holmes and Corey Brown are underwhelming third and fourth options.
