Family can cause people to lose perspective from time to time.
After his father - Phil Simms - suffered a demotion from his role as lead NFL color commentator for CBS in favor of Tony Romo, former quarterback Chris Simms made some hasty comments directed at the broadcaster Thursday.
However, he apologized for speaking without knowing all the facts Friday, via a statement released on Twitter.
I would like to set the record straight that I was not aware that (CBS Sports Chairman) Sean McManus had called my father's agent, Steve Rosner, the day before the news broke to let him know that CBS was pursuing Tony Romo for the role of the lead color analyst for their NFL coverage. I'd like to apologize to CBS for this misunderstanding.
Simms, who now works as an analyst for Bleacher Report, blasted CBS for how he thought they had treated his father, assuming the company had blindsided him with the news, as they did to the general public.
"That's not what you do for a good, hardworking employee who's been with you 20 years," the younger Simms said. "I don't know if my dad would be happy with me saying this: You can't sit there as a normal person out there and look at this and say they handled it like professionals."
While some have raised issue with Romo going straight from the field to the broadcast booth without training, most are happy to not have Simms on their television twice a week - though he still has multiple years left on his contract with CBS.
