Sherman: The NFL couldn't care less about player injuries
Outspoken Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is creating video blogs published on The Players' Tribune every Thursday, and this week he took the NFL to task on player safety.
"You're going to get arthritis in your knees, you're going to probably have some stress in your back," said Sherman, "your ankles are going to crack and pop all the time, and it's just things that come with the territory, decisions and sacrifices that you knowingly make coming into this game. But the NFL really (couldn't) care less."
He said it's hard to stress player safety in an inherently violent sport, but suggested the league has been hypocritical, allowing league MVP Cam Newton to take numerous shots to the head and stay in the game "because it would affect the ratings, because it would affect the game" for a bottom-line business.
"We really don't have reason to trust the NFL and I don't think they mind either way."
