Family over everything - including health, according to Rex Ryan.
The Buffalo Bills head coach underwent a procedure to remove his surgically implanted Lap Band - a device that restricts food and beverage intake as well as curbs appetite - in an effort to show solidarity with his brother Rob.
"I told him, we’ll figure this out together (without the Lap Band)," Rex told Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post. "Plus, I won more games without it than did with it in."
The Bills' head coach had previously dropped about 120 pounds since installing the Lap Band, and has gained back 30 since having it removed this summer.
Rex feels he has a better chance to learn how to properly manage his weight by dealing with the challenge alongside his brother. Rob, who joined the Bills' coaching staff this offseason, previously had a Lap Band as well, but had to have it removed after complications from it threatened his life.
Rex isn't wrong about his record with a little extra weight. He jumped out to a hot start in his head-coaching debut with the New York Jets by going 20-13, but has a record of just 34-47 since undergoing Lap Band surgery in 2010.
