Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Ivory remains hospitalized with a "general medical issue," and the team expects to learn more about his condition in the next 48 hours, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Ivory's uncertain status is one of the most bizarre and distressing stories of the NFL season so far. He was previously reported to be in a lot of pain, though there has been no indication that his life is in any danger despite a protracted hospital stay.

Ivory signed a five-year, $32-million contract with the Jaguars in free agency, and was primed to be the team's starter out of the backfield.

Second-year running back T.J. Yeldon got the start in Week 1, running for 39 yards and one touchdown on 21 attempts.
