Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has picked up October's Premier League Player of the Month award for the first time in his career.

The former factory worker has been in exceptional form for the Foxes throughout this season, and is one game away from matching former Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring in 10 consecutive games.

He also tops the scoring charts in the division, with 12 goals in 12 matches.

October was particularly fruitful for Vardy, as he tallied five strikes in four games to inspire his team to three wins and one draw in the month.

He fought off competition from the likes of Mesut Ozil, Jack Butland, and Kevin De Bruyne, becoming just the third Leicester player to win the award, after midfielder Muzzy Izzet in 1999 and England shot-stopper Tim Flowers a year later.

The 28-year-old provides an exceptional story due to his modest beginnings in non-league football with Stocksbridge Park Steels, Halifax, and Fleetwood Town up until 2012. Over the international break he will link up with the England squad again for friendlies against Spain and France.

Luton Town manager John Still, speaking to BBC Sport, believes there are more hidden gems like Vardy waiting to be plucked from lower-league obscurity.

"There's more out there that deserve a chance. It's people willing to take that chance," he said.
