Penguins GM: Malkin expected to miss 1-2 weeks with lower-body injury

Evgeni Malkin will not play Tuesday in New Jersey against the Devils, and could be out of the lineup longer than initially expected.

Speaking at the annual meetings in Boca Raton, Fla., on Monday, Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said Malkin is expected to miss one-to-two weeks with a lower-body injury sustained in Saturday's loss to Boston.

Earlier in the day, the star forward was listed as day-to-day by head coach Mike Johnston. He was considered likely to join the team on its three-game road trip, which continues in Dallas on Thursday and Arizona on Saturday.

Malkin, who ranks sixth in the NHL points race with 68 in 63 games, also missed Sunday's loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
