Report: Mike Shanahan a candidate for 49ers' vacant OC job
Geoff Burke / USA TODAY Sports
The San Francisco 49ers still consider Mike Shanahan a candidate for their vacant offensive coordinator position, according to Dianna Russini of NBC4 D.C.
Shanahan, who was the head coach of the Washington Redskins most recently, has not been a coordinator since running the 49ers' offense from 1992-1994.
Jim Tomsula was named head coach Thursday, and if Shanahan is hired he would be the first-time head coach's lead assistant.
It was also reported Kyle Shanahan turned down an interview for the same job because his father is still a candidate.
