The New York Giants may bring in another veteran signal-caller after Jaxson Dart's season-ending knee injury in Week 2, with their decision hinging partly on quarterback Jameis Winston's performance Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN's Ian Rapoport, Adam Schefter, and Mike Garafolo.
Free agent Jimmy Garoppolo is among several experienced quarterbacks on the Giants' radar, ESPN adds. The 34-year-old mulled retirement during the offseason but is reportedly open to returning under the right circumstances and is considering signing with New York.
If the Giants don't ink Garoppolo, the team could apparently look to acquire Arizona Cardinals backup Gardner Minshew II, Minnesota Vikings reserve J.J. McCarthy, San Francisco 49ers backup Mac Jones, or Kansas City Chiefs backup Justin Fields in a trade.
Winston struggled in New York's 28-6 road loss last week to the Los Angeles Rams after replacing Dart in the contest, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and throwing one interception.
Last season, Winston completed 37 of 66 passes for 567 yards over three appearances (two starts) for the Giants.
