Floyd Mayweather's exhibition fight set for Saturday against Mike Zambidis has been canceled, according to federal court documents filed Thursday, per ESPN's Michael Rothstein.
The status of the fight, which was set to take place in Greece, was thrown into question after event company CSI filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Mayweather last week.
"Because Plaintiffs' Motion remains pending without a ruling, the Mayweather-Zambidis event will no longer proceed in Athens, Greece, as planned on Saturday evening," attorney Melissa Glass wrote in a letter to the court, according to Rothstein. "Plaintiffs' commencement of this action and filing of the Motion, as well as their legal threats domestically and in Greece, have effectively stopped any promotion or distribution plans for the event and halted ticket sales."
The fight could happen in the future, but its viability depends on the outcome of the court case between CSI and Mayweather.
Mayweather was in line to earn $3 million from the bout, plus travel expenses for him and his team, according to promoter Keane Anis of FrontRow Fight Series.
FrontRow Fight Series, Mayweather Promotions, and Zambidis Club were jointly promoting the event.
