Report: Mariners, top prospect Emerson agree to 8-year, $95M extension

The Seattle Mariners and top shortstop prospect Colt Emerson agreed to an eight-year, $95-million contract extension, sources told Robert Murray of FanSided.

The deal includes a ninth-year club option, a full no-trade clause, and escalators that can bring the total north of $130 million, according to Murray.

Emerson's agreement establishes a record for a player who has yet to debut in the majors, reports Jon Heyman of MLB Network. The deal comes a day after the Milwaukee Brewers made headlines for reportedly finalizing an eight-year extension with shortstop Cooper Pratt, who has also not appeared in an MLB game.

The 20-year-old Emerson is the No. 7-ranked prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline.

Emerson hit 16 homers with 78 RBIs, 14 stolen bases, and an .842 OPS over 130 games between three minor-league levels in 2025.

Seattle selected Emerson with the No. 22 pick in the 2023 draft.
