Chiefs' Rice suspended 6 games
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been suspended six games without pay for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, the league announced Wednesday.
The suspension goes into effect at the start of the 2025 season, making Rice eligible to return for Kansas City's Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Rice is accepting the suspension, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The NFL initially wanted a 10-12 game ban before Rice's representation battled for a shorter suspension, Pelissero adds.
The suspension stems from Rice and another speeding driver causing a chain-reaction car crash that injured multiple people in Dallas in 2024. Rice, who prosecutors said fled on foot after the crash and didn't check on the people in the other vehicles, pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of deferred probation.
Rice is returning from an LCL injury in his knee that ended his 2024 season after only four games. The former second-round pick impressed during his 2023 rookie campaign, catching 79 passes for 938 yards and a team-high seven touchdowns.
The 25-year-old will miss matchups against the Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Detroit Lions.
