Report: Commanders to hire Peters as new GM
The Washington Commanders are working to hire San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters as their new GM, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Peters will be tasked with determining the structure of a leadership team to work alongside him, which includes the fate of Martin Mayhew, who was Washington's GM prior to Peters' hiring, Rapoport adds.
Peters, 49, has worked with the Niners dating back to 2017 when he was hired as the vice president of player personnel. He was promoted to assistant GM, serving under John Lynch.
The California native spent time with both the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots as a scout before joining the Niners.
The Commanders had narrowed down their search for what was initially labeled the head of football operations to two candidates this week. Peters edged out Chicago Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham for the role.
Friday's hire marks the first step in a front-office overhaul for new owner Josh Harris. Washington fired Ron Rivera after a 4-13 finish to the 2023 season.
