Johnny Manziel revealed in a new Netflix documentary that he attempted suicide after the Cleveland Browns cut him in 2016.

"I had planned to do everything I wanted to do at that point in my life, spend as much money as I possibly could, and then my plan was to take my life," Manziel said, according to ESPN's Jake Trotter. "I wanted to get as bad as humanly possible to where it made sense, and it made it seem like an excuse and an out for me."

The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner said in "Untold: Johnny Football" - which is scheduled for release Aug. 8 - that he suffered significant weight loss and started using OxyContin and cocaine daily following the 2015 NFL season.

Manziel said he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and refused to enter rehab. He added that he began self-sabotaging at one point, eventually going on a "$5-million bender" before attempting suicide with a gun.

However, the 30-year-old said that the weapon malfunctioned when he pulled the trigger.

"Still to this day, (I) don't know what happened. But the gun just clicked on me," he said.

Manziel appeared Friday on "The Pat McAfee Show" to talk about the new documentary.

"This was something that I was excited to do, excited to tell my story. ... I'm extremely satisfied," Manziel said. "It's kind of the way that I wanted to tell the story. I wanted to reflect well on College Station, well on my time at (Texas) A&M because those times were legendary."

"I sit here with more gratitude for every day, gratitude towards the small things," Manziel said Friday. "I was able to put life into a little bit different perspective after going through something like that because it was dark for me."

The Browns drafted Manziel 22nd overall in 2014 after he finished an impressive career at Texas A&M.
