Klay Thompson received his first career ejection Tuesday as the highly anticipated tilt between the Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns got chippy in the second half.

Referees issued technical fouls on Thompson and Devin Booker in the third quarter after they went chest-to-chest during a stoppage in play.

After the two were separated, Thompson continued jawing at an official and was subsequently tossed from the contest. He appeared to chirp the Suns' bench on his way to the locker room.

It was the Warriors guard's first career ejection in 759 regular-season and playoff games.

Tension appeared to be brewing when Thompson stripped Booker of the basketball on the previous possession. The pair continued to jaw at one another as play continued on the opposite end.

Thompson had just two points on 1-of-8 shooting at the time of his departure.

Phoenix eventually prevailed 134-105 to improve to 3-1 on the season. Booker led all players with 34 points.

The Suns guard downplayed his interaction with Thompson following the contest.

"I love Klay Thompson, and I have from the beginning. From the draft ... I wanted to be Klay Thompson," Booker told TNT's Chris Haynes during his on-court interview. "That doesn't excuse us from competing against each other and talking a little mess with each other. So I had fun with it. Big fan of his and his competitive nature. And that's that."
