Draymond Green, who could become a free agent after the upcoming campaign, doesn't believe he and the Golden State Warriors will agree on an extension before the season begins.

"At this point, whether I'd like to or not - I don't think it will happen," Green told reporters at media day Sunday, courtesy of NBC Sports.

"And so, for me, I'm just focused on this season and being as great as I can be, as I know I'm capable of being, and winning another championship, and reaching my individual goals that I have as well. I think that's my main focus."

Green reportedly sought a max extension from the team, worth approximately $138.4 million over four years. However, it's unclear how high the Warriors are willing to go.

The 32-year-old is set to earn $25.8 million this season but owns a player option worth $27.6 million for 2023-24. If he declines to exercise the option, he would become an unrestricted free agent for the first time and would attempt to secure what could be the last lucrative long-term contract of his career. That could still be with Golden State, but the four-time All-Star would then be permitted to speak with all 29 other teams.

Green, however, has been an essential figure in the Warriors' dynasty since their first of four championships together in 2015. The franchise's second-round pick in 2012, the former Defensive Player of the Year has spent all 10 of his professional seasons with Golden State.

While he acknowledged that every player approaches a contract year differently, Green gave Warriors fans at least some solace Sunday, revealing he feels inspired entering a season with no financial guarantees beyond it.

"For me, personally, any time in a contract year is motivation. That's kind of how I approach it, that's how I view it. It's always been the way I viewed it. I've historically been the guy to bet on myself even when others didn't believe. I've always felt confident betting on myself, and nothing changes for me now."
