Rivers: Embiid's thumb issue 'not a great injury'
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers admits the team isn't optimistic about Joel Embiid's thumb ailment, but he didn't divulge further information.
"I mean, I'm not sure, but we feel like it's not a great injury," Rivers said when asked if Embiid is dealing with a torn ligament, courtesy of Rich Hofmann of The Athletic. "I'm just going to leave it at that."
Embiid appeared to suffer the injury sometime during Game 3 against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday, as he was frequently seen grabbing at his hand in discomfort. Despite the issue, the MVP award finalist hit a turnaround 3-pointer with 0.7 seconds left in overtime to stun the Raptors on their own court and give the 76ers a 3-0 lead in the series.
Embiid, who reportedly practiced through pain Friday with what the team is officially deeming a sprain, played in Saturday's Game 4.
Rivers confirmed that Embiid will likely undergo an MRI after the contest.
"I think we already know what it is, to be honest, but we just got to make sure," he said. "There's no additional treatment to that, though."
The 28-year-old entered Saturday averaging 27.7 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 assists through the first three games of the series.
