King dethroned: Sweden's Wallberg wins moguls gold, Kingsbury silver

Canadian star Mikael Kingsbury's quest for repeat moguls gold came up just short.

Sweden's Walter Wallberg scored 83.23 in the men's moguls final Saturday, narrowly edging Kingsbury's 82.18.

The key for Wallberg was speed, where he picked up points over Kingsbury's more polished technical skiing.

It was the first major victory for the 21-year-old Swede, who has yet to win a World Cup event.

Ikuma Horishima of Japan took bronze with a score of 81.48.

Kingsbury won gold at PyeongChang 2018 and was attempting to follow fellow Canadian Alexandre Bilodeau as the only men's moguls skiers to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals. Bilodeau did it in 2010 - winning Canada's first-ever gold medal on home soil - and 2014.

Kingsbury is the first man in freestyle skiing history to win three Olympic medals. The 29-year-old from Quebec also claimed silver at Sochi 2014.
