Nagy denies report he'll be fired after Lions game

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy denied a report that he's been told Thursday's game will be his last with the team.

"That is not accurate," Nagy said Tuesday, according to Yahoo Sports' Eric Edholm. "I have great communication with ownership, with (chairman) George (McCaskey), (president) Ted (Phillips), and (general manager) Ryan (Pace), and I have not had any discussions (on that)."

Mark Konkol of Patch reported Monday that Nagy was informed Chicago would terminate his contract after its contest against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

The report came just hours after NFL reporter Jordan Schultz claimed an "overwhelming number" of Bears players want Nagy gone.

"Our focus right now is on these players and Detroit," Nagy added. "That's my job as a coach and a leader."

Bears fans chanted "Fire Nagy" during Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The same chant broke out while Nagy was attending his son's high school game Saturday, according to Edholm.

Nagy joined Chicago in 2018 and made an immediate impact, helping the Bears clinch the NFC North with a 12-4 record. He was named Coach of the Year that season.

However, the 43-year-old has since gone 19-23, including a 3-7 mark so far in 2021.
