Report: Solskjaer expects to remain United boss after international break

The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era at Manchester United is set to continue.

The Norwegian manager expects to remain in charge of the Red Devils after the international break despite persistent uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford, sources told Rob Dawson of ESPN.

Pressure on Solskjaer intensified over the week after rivals Manchester City thoroughly outplayed United in Saturday's derby defeat. The loss was United's sixth in the last 12 matches in all competitions.

But Solskjaer has reportedly spoken with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and been told to prepare for United's next match against Watford on Nov. 20.

Club officials want to keep Solskjaer until at least the end of the season, but his future could be in jeopardy if United's struggles affect their spot in the Champions League next season, Dawson reports.

United's success in this season's Champions League play is reportedly a key factor in their decision to retain Solskjaer, who signed a new three-year contract in July.

Solskjaer's side will qualify for the Champions League knockouts with a victory over Villarreal on Nov. 23.

Reports in October suggested Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers will be one of United's top targets if they dismiss Solskjaer.

The sixth-place Red Devils currently sit five points back of the last Champions League spot in the Premier League table.
