Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has emerged as a top candidate should Manchester United sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to ESPN's Mark Ogden.

Solskjaer is set to remain in charge for United's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday - and possibly Tuesday's Champions League match against Atalanta - despite intense speculation over his future after the club's 5-0 loss to Liverpool last Sunday.

The club's board backed Solskjaer to continue as manager after the humiliating defeat, but officials are reportedly weighing their options in the event the team's struggles continue.

Manchester United will look to recruit a new manager from the Premier League if Solskjaer gets fired, Ogden reports.

Rodgers is under contract with the Foxes until 2025 and highly regarded among top-level United officials, who have been impressed with the 48-year-old's body of work at Leicester, Celtic, and Liverpool, Ogden adds.

After almost winning the Premier League with Liverpool in 2014, Rodgers moved north to Scotland, where he guided Celtic to two league titles and a handful of other major trophies.

He joined Leicester in 2018 and led the club to its first-ever FA Cup triumph last season.

Antonio Conte was initially considered the front-runner to become Solskjaer's successor. But, while he hasn't been ruled out, links to the former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager have reportedly cooled due to a difference of opinion among Manchester United board members.

Manchester United - winless in their last five domestic matches - sit seventh in the Premier League with 14 points from nine games.
