The Seattle Sounders don't win the 2016 MLS Cup without Nicolas Lodeiro.

The Uruguayan arrived out west in summer 2016, and the Sounders became champions for the first time just a few months later.

The midfielder exploded for four goals in six playoff games after scoring four in 13 regular-season games. It was Lodeiro who kept the Sounders alive in the shootout after a 0-0 draw in the MLS Cup final, opening the door for Seattle's victory in hostile territory in Toronto. The best step up when the stakes are highest.

The 32-year-old was named Seattle's captain ahead of the 2019 season. "I want Nico representing the Sounders anywhere in the world," general manager Garth Lagerwey said at the time.

Lodeiro will go down as one of the best Sounders of all time, as evidenced by his placement on the club's all-time scoring list (fourth) and a 2016 MLS Cup banner that will fly forever.
