Beal ruled out for Olympics
Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal won't compete in the men's Olympic basketball tournament due to health and safety protocols, USA Basketball announced.
Team USA forward Jerami Grant is also self-isolating "out of an abundance of caution," the team added.
Beal's status came into question on Wednesday when the three-time All-Star isolated from his teammates during the pre-Olympic training camp in Las Vegas.
He's one of five guards on the team's 12-man roster alongside Damian Lillard, Zach LaVine, Devin Booker, and Jrue Holiday. Booker and Holiday are competing in the NBA Finals and expected to join the team prior to their July 19 flight to Tokyo.
A 17-man USA Select Team - comprised primarily of emerging young stars - works alongside Team USA, though it's not immediately clear if Beal's replacement will come from that group.
Beal averaged 10.3 points through three appearances for Gregg Popovich's Team USA.
