The New Orleans Saints are expected to release linebacker Kwon Alexander in the coming days, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Alexander's release will save the team more than $13 million against the salary cap, Rapoport adds. The Saints are currently $47.8 million over the 2021 cap, but Alexander's departure will help chip away at the figure.

The linebacker, acquired in a midseason trade with the San Francisco 49ers, tore his Achilles late last season but will be ready to start training camp, Rapoport notes. Injuries have limited Alexander as he hasn't played a full 16-game season since 2016.

Alexander posted 27 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble in seven games with the Saints.

The 26-year-old has earned one Pro Bowl nod over his six-year career. He's also recorded 471 career tackles and seven interceptions.
