Liverpool might not need an extensive search for their next manager.

Steven Gerrard has guided Rangers to the Premiership title, denying Celtic the chance of becoming the first of Scotland's Old Firm rivals to be named champions for 10 straight seasons.

The Gers' title was confirmed when Celtic drew 0-0 at Dundee United on Sunday. Rangers are 20 points clear at the league's summit with six matches remaining. They have finished atop the Scottish top flight 55 times, which is four more than Celtic.

Gerrard's triumph will undoubtedly boost his claims to be the eventual successor of Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool's dugout. The Scouser spent all of his playing career at Anfield, with the exception of a swansong in Major League Soccer with the LA Galaxy.

Exhaustive research isn't needed to uncover similarities between Gerrard's Rangers and Klopp's Liverpool. The Gers regularly set up in a 4-3-3 formation and deploy an eccentric South American in the middle of their forward three, with much of their attacking potency coming through their full-backs. First-team regular Ryan Kent signed for Rangers after working with Gerrard in the Liverpool academy.

Rangers travel to hated foes Celtic in their next league outing on March 21.

"Rangers win the title in a landslide. It’s been a very long and extremely torturous road, but Steven Gerrard has been outstanding. His players are transformed," BBC Sport's chief sports writer Tom English tweeted.

"I thought the pressure of the job would eat him up. Instead, he's reveled in it."
