The Philadelphia 76ers are the likeliest landing spot for James Harden if the Houston Rockets decide to trade their star guard, league sources told Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Philadelphia is believed to be on Harden's list of preferred destinations. However, it was reported Tuesday that the two teams haven't begun meaningful discussions yet.

It's unclear if Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta is hesitant to trade Harden to the 76ers after Daryl Morey took over as team president. Morey signed with Philadelphia in early November, only days after unexpectedly stepping down as Houston's general manager.

However, the familiarity between the two front offices may help defuse any tension, sources told Stein.

Harden, who reportedly requested a trade away from the Rockets this offseason, arrived late to training camp Tuesday after being photographed at two parties in the days prior. To be cleared to practice with the rest of the team, he must consecutively register six negative COVID-19 tests, a source told Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat are also among Harden's preferred trade destinations, Charania reports.
