Klay expected to miss entire season due to Achilles tear

Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson is expected to miss the entire 2020-21 season after an MRI confirmed a torn right Achilles tendon, the team announced Thursday.

The five-time All-Star was injured Wednesday while competing against current and former NBAers at a Los Angeles gym. He missed the entire 2019-20 campaign after tearing his left ACL during Game 6 of last year's NBA Finals.

"I'm not comparing this to what a lot of people are going through right now," Warriors president Bob Myers said, according to USA Today's Mark Medina. "There are people who are suffering and illnesses that can't be cured in the world. But in my job, these are the calls where the color drains from your face."

Golden State can apply for a $9.3-million disabled player exception, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. The Warriors were reportedly also close Thursday to a trade for Kelly Oubre.

Thompson has developed into one of the league's greatest shooters since the Warriors drafted him 11th overall in 2011. He has shot at least 40% from deep in each of his eight seasons in the Association. The Washington State product also holds the NBA regular season and playoff record for most triples made in a single game.

Thompson was an integral part of Golden State's title runs in 2015, 2017, and 2018. He's a two-time All-NBA selection and earned his first NBA All-Defensive nod in 2018-19.
