The Los Angeles Angels granted the Chicago White Sox permission to interview Tony La Russa for their managerial vacancy, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

La Russa is currently a special assistant in the Angels organization. The 76-year-old last managed in the majors in 2011, when he led the St. Louis Cardinals to a World Series title.

The former skipper won three championships during his 33-year Hall of Fame career. His 2,728 managerial wins are third on the all-time list.

Chicago is looking for a new manager after parting ways with Rick Renteria on Monday.
