Michael Thomas' recent suspension was the result of a confrontation with the New Orleans Saints' coaching staff, according to The Athletic's Jeff Duncan.

The receiver, who missed Monday's game, reportedly talked back to coaches, including head coach Sean Payton, after getting into a fight with teammate C.J. Gardner-Johnson during Saturday's practice.

The 27-year-old also yelled at team trainers for not taping his ankle properly, and he accused one staff member of illegally going through his mail, Duncan adds.

Thomas was officially ruled out on Sunday due to team discipline. He was originally listed as questionable for Monday Night Football.

The wideout had missed the club's three previous games before Monday's contest due to an ankle injury.

Payton didn't provide a clear answer following the Saints' victory Monday when asked if Thomas' suspension would only last one game.

"I will keep you posted. That is something that we will discuss and we will let you know when the time is right," Payton said.
