The Toronto Maple Leafs added some depth up front, signing forward Travis Boyd to a one-year contract for $700,000, the team announced Saturday.

Boyd recorded 10 points in 24 games with the Capitals last season and has 31 points in 85 career NHL contests - all with Washington.

The 27-year-old was a member of the 2018 Capitals team that won the Stanley Cup, though he only appeared in eight regular-season games and once in the playoffs.

Boyd posted strong underlying numbers in limited action last season, as the Caps outscored their opponents 15-5 and generated 51.2% of the expected goals while he was on the ice at five-on-five, according to Natural Stat Trick.

He's listed as a center but has struggled mightily in the faceoff circle, winning just 39.5% of his career draws.
