Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is in the NFL's concussion protocol, head coach Bruce Arians told reporters Wednesday, according to Pewter Report's Jon Ledyard.

Arians said that Godwin, who practiced Monday and Tuesday, began to show symptoms during Wednesday's session. The former Penn State standout received a hard hit to the helmet late in the team's Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The 2019 Pro Bowler was the Buccaneers' leading receiver in Week 1, hauling in six receptions for 79 yards in Tampa Bay's 34-23 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

It's not all bad news for the Buccaneers' wide receiver corps. Fellow star wideout Mike Evans has been dealing with an ailing hamstring that led to him being a game-time decision last week. On Wednesday, Evans ran well and looked good in practice, Arians said, according to NFL Network's Michael Giardi. Tampa's top receiving target is coming off a quiet one-catch performance in the season opener.

The Buccaneers host the Carolina Panthers in another NFC South divisional matchup in Week 2.
