Report: Ngakoue still wants trade, unlikely to sign tag soon
Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue hasn't backed off his trade request and doesn't plan to sign his franchise tag in the immediate future, reports ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
The deadline for tagged players to ink long-term contracts is July 15, but Ngakoue previously indicated he isn't interested in negotiating such a deal with the Jaguars. After July 15, he would only be able to play in 2020 under the one-year tag.
If the Jaguars hold onto him, Ngakoue may refrain from signing the tag well into training camp, according to Fowler. Ngakoue held out at the beginning of camp a year ago before putting his contract demands on the back-burner and reporting to the club.
Ngakoue has posted at least eight sacks in all four seasons of his career. The 25-year-old had 12 sacks and made the Pro Bowl in 2017.
