Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says soon-to-be free agent David Silva will see out the remainder of the club's 2019-20 campaign.
"David will stay until the end of season," Guardiola said ahead of Wednesday's closed-doors visit from Arsenal, according to Reuters.
Silva's contract was set to expire on June 30. The 34-year-old has been linked with a return to Valencia and a move to MLS as the latest terms of his 10-year City tenure tick down.
Deals that were scheduled to lapse at the end of June hang in the balance after the coronavirus pandemic forced a three-month hiatus and delayed the season's completion until the end of July.
"He will finish the last games without people. But hopefully he and the club can organize a proper farewell in front of people," Guardiola added.
City still have plenty to play for despite the 25-point margin separating them from league leaders Liverpool. With League Cup silverware already gracing the club's bountiful trophy cabinet following a finals victory over Aston Villa in March, Silva and Co. are still in contention in the FA Cup and the Champions League.
Silva, who joined City in 2010 from Valencia, has captured four Premier League titles and two FA Cups while winning the League Cup on five occasions.
