LeBron teaming with black athletes, entertainers to form voting rights group

LeBron James is joining forces with several other black athletes and entertainers to found "More Than a Vote," an organization focused on protecting the voting rights of African-Americans.

"Because of everything that's going on, people are finally starting to listen to us - we feel like we're finally getting a foot in the door," the Los Angeles Lakers superstar told Jonathan Martin of The New York Times. "How long is up to us. We don't know. But we feel like we're getting some ears and some attention, and this is the time for us to finally make a difference."

"More Than a Vote" aims to encourage African-Americans to register and vote in November's presidential election.

Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara, four-time WNBA All-Star Skylar Diggins-Smith, ex-NBAer Jalen Rose, and comedian Kevin Hart are among the notable figures joining James in the non-profit initiative.

"Yes, we want you to go out and vote, but we're also going to give you the tutorial," James said. "We're going to give you the background of how to vote and what they're trying to do, the other side, to stop you from voting."

James criticized Georgia's voting system Tuesday after a black woman waited three hours to vote in the state's Democratic primary while there was allegedly no line at a predominantly white polling site.
