Report: NBA cuts salaries of top-earning executives, including Silver
The NBA is reducing the base salaries of approximately 100 of the league office's top-earning executives by 20%, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver and deputy commissioner Mark Tatum are reportedly among those having their salaries reduced.
League spokesman Mike Bass wouldn't confirm or deny the news.
"These are unprecedented times and, like other companies across all industries, we need to take short-term steps to deal with the harsh economic impact on our business and organization," Bass told Wojnarowski.
The cuts don't currently affect support or administrative staff, according to Wojnarowski.
The indefinite suspension of league play has already had some major financial ramifications. While NBA clubs intend to pay all their players on schedule through April 1, the league reportedly has not committed to continue giving players their salary beyond that date.
The Association will apparently also raise its line of credit from $650 million to $1.2 billion to increase cash flow while the NBA is on hiatus.
On Tuesday, the Philadelphia 76ers reversed course on a plan to temporarily cut employee salaries by up to 20% and switch to a four-day workweek.
