The Sharks later announced Couture was being evaluated and would not return to the game.
Interim head coach Bob Boughner said postgame he "believes" the X-rays were negative and doesn't think Couture's injury is "too, too serious."
A significant injury to Couture would mark the latest setback in what's been a disastrous season in the Bay Area. The Sharks entered Tuesday's action eight points out of a playoff spot, but Couture has been a lone bright spot, leading the team with 36 points.
