Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes suffered a lower-body injury Friday against the Anaheim Ducks and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest, the team announced.
The 20-year-old phenom went down awkwardly and appeared to twist his ankle after getting his skate caught in the ice.
Hughes will stay with the team as it completes its California road trip. The Canucks are hopeful he'll be able to suit up Saturday against the San Jose Sharks, according to Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre.
Hughes, the seventh overall pick in the 2018 draft, has 10 points in 13 games this season - the most among Canucks defensemen and tied for the most among all rookie skaters entering Friday.
