Jaguars owner not planning to honor Ramsey's trade request

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan doesn't intend to trade Jalen Ramsey despite the Pro Bowl cornerback's request.

"Obviously, football is a team sport and I'm sensitive to what individual insight or viewpoint or requests (there) might be," Khan told Mark Long of The Associated Press. "But we have to do the right thing for the team. We value the values Jalen adds to us, to the Jaguars. I think we value him highly. We're still looking at what is the right thing for the Jaguars, and I think right now the best thing is to have him be part of the team."

Ramsey asked for a trade after clashing with head coach Doug Marrone on the sideline in Week 2. He later revealed his desire to leave the Jaguars stemmed from a "disrespectful" exchange with the front office.

Ramsey suited up in Week 3, but noted afterward he still wanted out of Jacksonville. A back injury kept him out Week 4, and has sidelined him at practice early in Week 5.

"I've met with him," Khan said. "I think my relationship with him is pretty good. This is not a request from me or a viewpoint from me. I have no issue, obviously. I'd love for him to be part of the Jaguars."

The Jaguars closed September on a two-game winning streak. They sit at 2-2 alongside the other three teams in the AFC South.

"Obviously, we're turning the season around and I think he can help the team," Khan said.

Previously, Khan said he'd be willing to make Ramsey the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. A two-time Pro Bowler, Ramsey has already enjoyed standout performances this season against star receivers Tyreek Hill and DeAndre Hopkins.

Ramsey was drafted fifth overall by the Jaguars in 2016 and is tied to his rookie contract through the 2020 campaign.
