The Chicago Cubs placed reliever Craig Kimbrel on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation, the team announced Monday.

Right-hander Duane Underwood was recalled in a corresponding move.

Kimbrel apparently felt the issue crop up during his most recent outing Saturday, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN.

The Cubs are hoping he'll return as soon as he's eligible to come off the IL in 10 days, according to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic. Kimbrel expects to only miss the minimum amount of time and said he'd "absolutely" be able to pitch through this problem if it occurred during the playoffs, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.

"I think when you look at the options of pushing through it or taking time to let it calm down, this (move) made sense," Kimbrel said, per Wittenmyer.

Kimbrel has tallied nine saves with a 5.68 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over 14 outings with the Cubs.
