Report: Tottenham look to gazump Arsenal's Saliba move
This could get messy.
Tottenham are set to usurp Arsenal's move for Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba, with BBC Sport's David Ornstein reporting that Spurs have "reignited their interest and are now pushing hard to get the deal completed."
According to Ornstein, Arsenal's much-publicized approach for the highly rated French teen was in its final stages. Now, it appears as if the Gunners' north London rival could swoop in to pluck the 18-year-old from Arsenal's grip.
Saint-Etienne was looking to retain Saliba's services on loan for the 2019-20 season before shipping the teen to Arsenal on permanent terms.
Reports suggest Spurs have presented an offer exceeding €30 million (£27 million) plus applicable bonuses in hopes of forcing Saint-Etienne into a switch after Arsenal tabled a bid in the neighborhood of €30 million.
A standout with France's Under-19 offering, Saliba is considered one of Europe's highest-rated young central defenders. Saliba made his professional debut for Les Verts during a win over Toulouse in September 2018 and went on to rack up 16 Ligue 1 appearances during the 2018-19 campaign.
