1st AL All-Star voting update: Trout leads, La Stella surprises

Major League Baseball released its first American League All-Star Game voting update on Monday, and there are some early shockers at the top of the list.

The biggest surprise is at second base, where Tommy La Stella's breakout season with the Los Angeles Angels has him leading the way at the keystone. La Stella's all-world Angels teammate, Mike Trout, has garnered the most votes (951,002) among AL players, nearly 200,000 more than second-place George Springer.

In the new All-Star voting format, the top three vote-getters at each infield position and top nine outfielders as of June 21 advance to the starters election, in which the starting lineups for the July 9 Midsummer Classic will be determined.
