San Francisco Giants president and CEO Larry Baer will take a leave of absence from the team after he was seen on video last week in a physical altercation with his wife, Pam, the organization announced Monday.

Baer was filmed pulling his screaming wife to the ground in a public plaza. A witness said the couple were involved in a 20-minute argument prior to that physical act.

Major League Baseball is taking the lead in gathering all the facts of the incident and the Giants are fully cooperating with it during the investigation.

Baer acknowledged that his behavior was unacceptable, apologized to the organization, and is committed to taking steps to ensure this never happens again, according to the Giants' statement.

During his absence, the Giants' board of directors have asked team executives to manage the day-to-day operations of the club.
