Report: White Sox offered Machado 8-year, $250M deal
Little by little, the Manny Machado sweepstakes are inching toward a conclusion.
The proposed deal is worth $250 million, according to Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital's sources.
A longer deal isn't out of the question, either. The team could offer Machado a 10-year contract if his market remains competitive.
The Philadelphia Phillies reportedly remain engaged with the 26-year-old slugger, and a mystery team is also involved.
The White Sox have been one of the most aggressive suitors for Machado's services this winter. And while the team has denied any connection, they've added Yonder Alonso and Jon Jay, both of whom are close to Machado off the field.
With the New York Yankees presumably out of the running after recently signing Troy Tulowitzki and DJ LeMahieu, the Phillies have been Chicago's only public rival on the market since the calendar flipped to 2019.
Both Machado and fellow free agent Bryce Harper are expected to land massive, long-term contracts. Machado is a four-time All-Star and has a career slash line of .282/.335/.487 with 175 home runs, 211 doubles, and 53 stolen bases in 926 games.
