Shaquille O'Neal has stepped up to help pay for the funeral of 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Houston last weekend.

The NBA Hall of Famer teamed up with Houston senior police officer Kenneth Miles to cover the costs of the funeral, which will be held Tuesday, according to Brandon Walker and Aaron Barker of Click 2 Houston.

"I just wanted to keep the pain away, trying to raise money and pay for the funeral because funerals can be quite expensive," O'Neal said.

Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has also pledged his check from Saturday's AFC wild-card game to Jazmine's family.

Jazmine was riding in a car with her mother and three sisters when a man in a red pickup truck drove up beside them and began shooting in an apparently unprovoked attack. A $100,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.
